Knowing Our Value

I have always had a problem with under estimating my value. I never wanted to be perceived as being boastful so therefore I felt that it was best to just keep quiet. I am enjoying a book that I forgot I purchased written by Mika Brzezinski entitled:  Knowing Your Value.  One thing she shared is  ” I understand that part of knowing your value is knowing when it is down and when it is time to take steps to rebuild.” I have preached this for many years to my three adult daughters and yet I am finding that I haven’t lived it. I also find that this is typical for many women. My goal for 2014 is to appreciate my value and to help other women to appreciate theirs. I will share either quotes or words of inspiration that I find has helped me to move forward and not give up. I will start off with one of my favorite scriptures, Galatians 6:9
“So let us not give up in doing what is fine for in due season we will reap if we don’t tire out”

Words of wisdom!

On 12/02/2011 I decided to blog about one of my favorite persons. My Mom. When I read to her what I had written, she said “Thank you baby” .  That was what she called me and my siblings, and to other people who knew her she would refer to them as “Sugar”.  It was a special honor to be considered one of her babies. A few months ago I decided to share what I had written about my mom with my family and friends. My mom passed away in March, and we all came together to honor her life. I miss her dearly and miss her words of wisdom. For months I decided not to share this personal loss.  What does the loss of my mother have to do with Laguna Candles, my business? Absolutely nothing, but I will always remember her telling me to just hang on when I wanted to give up on my dream and just quit. For those of you who might be dealing with insurmountable challenges in life with family, business, or just life in general. I would like to share my mother’s words. “Don’t give up, just hang on Sugar” I hope this gives you the courage to keep moving forward. It has for me. This one’s for you mom!

The Aroma Of Space

I started my company Laguna Candles for two reasons. My love for candles and scents and the  desire for a clean burning scented candle and a another important reason was I wanted my three daughters to have a choice to choose between working for someone or for themselves. For many years I also  sold Luxury Real Estate In the Coastal communities of OC.  I previewed some of the most beautiful homes in the US.  What surprised me the most, was how much people invested in the interior of their home, and yet what I  found was as beautiful as these homes  were,  so often the homes were void of scent. Typically when I walk into any home the first thing I notice is the smell.  Scent has always been a large part of who I am. From my days as a little girl mesmerized by the scent of Chanel No. 5 that my Grandmother (Lola) loved,  to walking in  one of my favorite luxury Hotels and smelling beautiful scents all through out.

Many years ago my husband Clarence’s  tennis buddy Herman told him one day, what he loved about our home was that it always smelled wonderful. That was one of the nicest complements that I have heard to this day. The beauty of the Lemon

I am amazed at the the versatility of the lemon. In reading one of my favorite Journals I thought I would share some of the amazing uses. Just imagine, a product that can be used as medicine, cleaning agent, disinfectant, and a beauty treatment.
Lemons are a source of citric acid which is used as a natural preservative and to give a sour taste to food or drink. The lemons pith and peel yield pectin, which is used in the food industry as a thickener, emulsifier, and gelling agent. Additionally there is an oil extracted from the peel that can be used in food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic industries. The list can go on and on.
